Rio Juni receives Dutch CARDIOVASCULAR ALLIANCES-RECONNEXT CONSORTIUM GRANT 2023

Dutch CardioVascular Alliance – Renal connection to microvascular disease and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (DCVA-RECONNEXT) consortium has awarded Rio Juni a fellowship to develop and study heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF)-on-a-chip. HFpEF is the most prevalent type of heart failure to date with a lack of medication, posing it as an unmet clinical need. Rio will use an innovative 3D co-culture system (combination of different type of heart cells derived from human inducible-pluripotent stem cells) of engineered heart tissue and patient materials to study HFpEF. His research will focus on endothelial dysfunction and the role of a novel endothelial-specific long noncoding RNA in the development of HFpEF.
